An 18-year-old male from Morden is facing multiple charges after police caught him driving drunk, not once, but twice in two days.

On August 16th, around 8:30 a.m, police received a call advising of an accident at the corner of 7th Street and North Railway Street. Witness information indicated that the driver was possibly intoxicated.

Police arrived on scene and observed a vehicle on the southwest sidewalk that hit a lamppost, a stop sign, and a large tree. The vehicle also struck a parked vehicle on the north side of the parking lot across the street that sustained some minor damage.

The driver was on scene and known to police to be a suspended driver. There was a partial can of beer observed in the centre cup holder.

A demand was made for the driver to provide a sample of his breath on a roadside screening device that resulted in a reading of only 13 mg%. The vehicle belonged to a friend of the driver and the license plates were from a different vehicle all together.

As a result of this incident, the 18 year old driver from Morden was charged with Drive Disqualified, Drive an Unregistered Vehicle, Attach Unauthorized Number Plates and as a Driver, Carry Liquor in a vehicle contrary to the Liquor and Gaming Control Act.

The next day, on August 17, police received a complaint from a witness around 10:20 p.m of a vehicle traveling west bound on Highway #3 into Morden with its 4-way lights on and a smashed front windshield.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving in its lane.

The vehicle was located as it turned southbound onto Route 100 in Morden. The vehicle was stopped and police observed the vehicle to be missing the driver's side mirror and the windshield to be severely damaged.

Police observed a strong odor of liquor coming from the vehicle and an open case of beer on the front passenger's seat.

The driver was known to police and recognized as the driver involved in the accident from the previous morning. When asked to step out of the vehicle, the driver had to lean heavily against the door to get out of the car. At this time, police observed a strong odor of liquor on the accused's breath.

The accused was asked to step back to the police vehicle and police observed him to have a difficult time walking. The accused was advised he was being placed under arrest for impaired driving and a demand to provide samples of his breath was made.

Tests were administered and analyzed at 140 and 130 mg%. As a result, the 18-year-old male from Morden is facing further charges of Impaired Driving, Drive over .08, Drive while Disqualified, Attach Unauthorized Number Plate, Drive without Motor Vehicle liability Insurance, Drive a vehicle when view is obstructed and As a Driver, Carry Liquor in a vehicle contrary to the Liquor and Gaming Control Act. He will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court October 17th.

On August 18th, Morden Police responded to another incident of impaired driving.

At around 11:55 pm, officers observed a vehicle driving eastbound on Thornhill Street without any headlights. Police activated emergency lights and stopped the vehicle.

An odor of liquor could be detected while speaking to the driver. The driver had difficulty providing his driver's license and vehicle registration, handing several receipts to police instead. A demand was made for the driver to provide a sample of his breath on a roadside screening device that resulted in a fail.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and further tests resulted in readings of 140 and 130 mg%. The vehicle was impounded for the usual 30 days and the 59-year-old driver from Altona was charged with Drive over .08 and Driving Impaired.

He was released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in October.
