The Manitoba government announced Thursday it will be investing $1.7 million for enhanced paramedic staffing in three regional health authorities, including the Town of Morris.

Morris mayor Gavin van der Linde said the town's location made it a perfect candidate for the new addition of four new EMS positions.

"[The investment] does affect the community, but it's mainly a regional issue for us with Morris being right on Highway 75, with a hospital, with an emergency room... so it was one of the logical places to make sure that the ambulances are located and that they can serve the region better," he said.

In addition, van der Linde said this investment has been a long time coming, but is happy with its arrival and said he thinks it will have a positive impact on not only the town, but the surrounding areas as well.

Alongside Morris, four positions will be added to Gladstone/Kinosota, as well as Carman.
