The mayor of Morris says the latest flood statistics issued by the U.S. National Weather Service this week are being overlooked by the media.

On Monday, the weather service announced that the Red River would rise 10 feet by Friday, April 5th at Fargo, North Dakota and crest at just under 35 feet on April 8th.

Scott Crick says that crest level at Fargo is significant since the weather service had earlier predicted a less than 10 per chance that the Red would crest under 35 feet. According to the mayor, the weather service is essentially predicting significantly lower crest levels on the Red based on the latest numbers.

He says, barring any unfavourable weather events in the coming weeks, these latest flood figures are a very positive development for communities further downstream like Morris, and may point to a flood that is somewhere between 2009 and 2011 levels.
