Slippery highway conditions kept Altona fire crews busy Wednesday afternoon.

Chief Greg Zimmerman says the first call came in at around 1:55 p.m. of an overturned vehicle on Highway 14, about three miles east of Rosenfeld. "(Members) found the vehicle upside-down but the occupants were already out of the vehicle and they were okay."

Shortly after at about 3:23 p.m. crews were called to a similar incident at essentially the same spot. "It was a semi that had gone off the road and jack-knifed," explains Zimmerman.

He notes the driver also walked away without injuries and was standing on the side of the road when crews arrived on scene. "He happened to come along (and) hit a big patch of ice. His truck was empty and he also hit a good wind gust that sort of forced him off the road."

Zimmerman adds Manitoba highway crews sanded the area not long after the two incidents.
