"It's always good to hear concerns."

That according to Portage-Lisgar MP and Conservative House Leader Candice Bergen after a recent meeting in Winkler to hear from local residents and business leaders.

She notes the wide-ranging discussion touched on issues like taxes on small businesses, the environment, and the local labour market.

"In the Winkler-Morden area there are consistent concerns around the labour market," Bergen says, adding the key will be attracting immigrants with skills that would help meet those needs.

Bergen says her priority in the coming months will be putting forward ideas to fix "some of the flaws that have been created in the immigration system."

The Small Business Tax remains top of mind for many business leaders, Bergen explains, and concerns additional tax increases puts a strain on businesses and professionals.

"We support reducing taxes in order to keep our small businesses competitive," she says.

The House of Commons has risen for the summer and is not expected to resume until after the election this fall.
