The 14th annual Decor Cabinets Charity Classic was held Thursday at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden.

142 golfers, some who came from as far away as Quebec, took to the greens in support of four non-profit organizations, raising a total of $67,000.

Since 2004, $960,000 has been donated through the tournament.

CFO of Decor, and Chairman of the charity classic, Dave Schellenberg says the ongoing support and the fact the charity classic has raised nearly $1-million since 2004, means a great deal.  "It means that we've had success over a number of years in contacting people who share the same dream, the same cause that we have," said Schellenberg.  He said the cause is something they do in partnership with everyone that comes out, noting it's not about Decor but about the charities.  "Obviously there's a lot of people that want to support the charities, and see them thrive and have a big goal of seeing them succeed."

One of the groups sharing the funds raised is Morden's Youth for Christ (YFC).  "When you know that approximately 10% of your budget is coming as the result of one event, you breathe differently," said John Rempel executive director of the Morden YFC.  He said the on-going commitment allows them a lot of freedom with their programming.  "It means that we don't miss pay cheques, it means that utilities get paid for, but it also means you get to do special projects, whether it sending kids to camp or refacing the outside of the gym."

Also sharing in the proceeds from the classic is the Pembina Counselling Centre, Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre, and the C2C Network, which exists to be a catalyst for church planting and multiplication across Canada.

Paul Winter pastors at Living Word Temple in North Winnipeg, and has worked with C2C Network to establish churches across the country.
