Gateway Resources is adding a new group home in Winkler.

The organization recently purchased a house on Scotia Dr. that will provide space for three individuals to live independently with the help of Gateway staff supports.

Gateway Resources Director of Residential Service Dianne Hildebrand explains when they were initially approached by the homeowners to purchase the property they didn't have immediate need of the new home. However, soon after they received a request to provide a place for two individuals moving to the region that required wheelchair access. Thankfully, the proposed property had already been outfitted for wheelchair accessibility.

"We were able to open up the conversation again, and are very grateful for the opportunity to establish another community residence for individuals in Winkler," Hildebrand says.

The home is already outfitted with a wheelchair ramp and interior doors expanded to 35", as well as an accessible sunroom.

With the addition in Winkler and the reopening of a home in Morden, Gateway Resources are up to 18 homes total, nine in Winkler and seven in Morden.

She notes they also facilitate 15 individuals through their supported independent living program which provides transportation, meal preparation, and budgeting
