Genesis House is hoping to bring a new program to Winkler by March.

The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a program designed to help parents by building on strengths, step by step.

Executive Director, Ang Braun, said it's been successful at Swan Lake First Nation. Facilitating the Triple P program at Swan Lake was possible through a Manitoba Community Services Council grant.

"The Triple Parenting Program is something the province has been rolling out over the past number of years, and we've enjoyed very good success at Genesis House," said Braun.

The program will be wrapping up in March in Swan Lake, and that's when Braun hopes to bring it to Winkler.

She said it's an educational program, not a child-parent program, and requires some commitment.

Braun added parents learn different techniques and skills in a supportive environment, and the program is for both men and women.

"It's scientifically based, it's evidence based, and like I say that's probably why the province chose that one a number of years back," she said.

The program also gets the parent to focus on their behaviour as well as the child's.

"It's sort of tracking your own behaviour, 'what happened right before, and what outcome did I have, and what could I do differently'... what is our role in that as a parent or a caregiver?" Braun explained.

The parent will also have notes and material to look back on.

Further details about Triple P can be found on the Government of Manitoba website.

Braun said she's always interested to hear from the public about a gap or need in the community. Genesis House can be reached by phone at (204) 325-9957.

Genesis House is also currently running a Women's program, two support groups meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
