Rosenort Agro's new soybean seed treatment plant appears to be attracting a fair amount of interest from area producers.

The company installed a six bin seed treater system last fall and began operations this spring.

According to general manager, Denis Benjamin, the company has had a good response to the new service.

"We've had a lot of interest from existing customers and new customers, so we're quite pleased that we made the investment," said Benjamin.

Rosenort Agro was started in the late 1950s by Levi Brandt. At that time the company began as a fuel retailer and then branched into fertilizer and herbicide sales in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Brandt's sons took over the business in 1978 and eventually expanded into liquid fertilizer and custom spraying. In 2005, Benjamin and another partner purchased shares in Rosenort Agro and have continued to direct the business.

Benjamin wouldn't rule out the possibility of expanding their new seed treatment facility in the near future.

"I think maybe adding on a few more bins as sales increase is a possibility which would include improvements to the process to make sure that we can serve the farmer better every year."

Rosenort Agro's seed treatment plant marks the continued expansion of agricultural services in the RM of Morris.

Last year, Lowe Farm Co-op turned sod for its new fertilizer blending facility.
