A new health service offered in the region will help women suffering from pelvic pain.

Physiotherapist Ashley Froese says she was encouraged by a local doctor to seek training in Pelvic Floor and Women's Health Physiotherapy to help sufferers in Southern Manitoba.

"I'm really looking forward to put these skills to practice and help women who don't talk about these issues... maybe don't even know there are options to reduce their symptoms."

Morden Physiotherapy will be the first clinic in the region to offer the service, assisting women with pelvic pain caused by various factors including endometriosis.

"Women who have been travelling to Winnipeg for years to receive much needed services will no longer need to," she says.

Froese also hopes to bring the topic pelvic pain into the open. "It's not normal to live in pain. It's not normal to have incontinence and it's ok to receive treatment for it and improve your quality of life."

She notes it's important health practitioners take a teamwork approach, recognizing patients benefit from different treatments offered by a variety of disciplines.

"It's an exciting time in the Pembina Valley, we've got great physicians... shedding a light on what rehab really means."
