The 2017/18 budget for Emerson-Franklin Municipality won't change much from current figures. Council is looking to maintain the 2016 budget of just over $5.5 million.

While this means municipal taxes won't change much for the coming year, Reeve Greg Janzen says education taxes are a different story.

"The average household or farm yard will only have a dollar increase on their (municipal) taxes, but I think on the average property school taxes will go up almost a hundred and ninety-five dollars."

As for capital projects included in this budget, Janzen says Council will be upgrading a number of gravel roads in the municipality.

"We want to...finish working on River Road, we want to do the Five Mile Road which is in need of a lot of work. (We also) want to keep maintaining some of our truck route gravel roads and keep adding extra gravel and build them up. Now that we have a nice R-TAC highway coming in to our municipality, we want to make sure our rural roads are up to shape."

And with the migrant situation enduring in Emerson, Janzen was asked if Council will be re-directing any dollars to the response efforts made by the local fire department.

"Right now, no, we're not budgeting anything extra for the emergency medical calls...or any hall rentals or any extra costs."
