The Winkler Harvest Festival will be without one of the weekend's events. Festival Director Deb Penner has announced the Manitoba High School Rodeo won't be happening this year.

Steve and Sheila Reimer, who have organized the High School Rodeo for the last several years, have resigned from that role. "We knew the day would come”, Penner said. "They have two daughters who compete in the MHSRA (Manitoba High School Rodeo Association), and as the girls grew up we anticipated they would move on to other things."

Penner noted, at this time, there isn't another family or group able to take over organizing the program for the Festival. She added the Festival is looking for another group of people to step in, and organize the event for next year's Festival.

"I do want to recognize and thank Steve and Sheila for the hundreds of hours they gave to the Festival, and for their enthusiasm and support of the youth who participate in the rodeo association," concluded Penner.

However, there will be activity on the Stanley Ag Grounds starting with the Open 4H show taking place Friday followed by a Gymkhana. The Stanley Ag Light Horse Show will take place all day Saturday.
