After six years of running a large community garage sale to raise money for the Hope Without Limits Foundation, organizers are scaling back while still providing an opportunity to donate. The organization has built and continues to support a school in Kenya.

This year, Hope Without Limits Foundation held a plant and bake sale style event called the Kenya Orphan Fundraising Non-Garage Sale. The sale was held on May 31st and June 1st.

Shirley Banman, an organizer of the event, explained that instead of a garage sale, people could enjoy baking and receive plants through donation. The idea was initially brought forward by Banman's daughter, in the wake of the $27,000 raised last year.

Banman explained the $12,589 raised this year will be sent to Kenya to help with the updates towards the schools kitchen, which she explained is not even up to Kenyan standards. The majority of the funds, though, will be going towards funding the students tuition.

"For the kids to go to high school it costs about $100 a month," Banman explained. "There is no free high school in Kenya for kids."

Banman said she was inspired by the Matthew West song, 'Do Something'. Describing West's song, Banman recounts the act of looking up to God asking Him why nothing is being done to correct the wrongs in the world, only to hear the response, "I did. . . I created you." Banman says everyone can do something to help, even if they are just ordinary people.
