Tim Hortons Camp Day took place yesterday where 100% of coffee purchases go towards sending disadvantaged kids to camp over the summer.

Between the Winkler and Morden locations, $9,640 was racked up by the end of the day.

"Kids that have never been to camp that we're going to send to camp, I think they're going to have a blast," says Lisa Froese, a Winkler Tim Hortons employee of 15 years.

Lynda Derksen is one of the owners who has also been in the business for 15 years says that camp is an important experience where kids can learn what they're capable of and expand their limits.

"I have two girls, and my oldest girl actually went to Tim Hortons camp when she was young – about 10 years old. She has talked about that endlessly over the years, it was a wonderful experience," she says.

Along with camps in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, the newest Tim Hortons camp opened in 2015 at the Whiteshell Provincial Park on Sylvia Lake. This is currently their only camp in Manitoba.

Winkler Manager Joan Enns says from her experience that camp is "not only learning new skills, meeting new people, but the confidence level that can bring. And just to know that you are moving forward in life and growing up."

As another way to give back to the community, some local celebrities like Eric Fehr, Justin Falk, and volunteer firefighters were helping serve coffee throughout the day.
