The first Habitat for Humanity home got a fundraising boost this weekend thanks to the Beach Boat Build at Morden's Colert Beach.

Organizer Sue Nelson explains eams of four frantically assembled cardboard vessels before racing on the lake. All funds raised from the Beach Boat Build will go towards the Winkler/Morden chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Nelson says the event was a success, noting many people came to watch the building phase and race.

"The race was fabulous," she says, adding the cardboard boats surprised many with their durability and creativity. However, one or two homemade vessels didn't make it, "but I think everybody had fun."

She notes they look forward to holding the race again next year, and estimates the event raised over $2,000.
