A serious accident took place Tuesday evening in the community of Emerson shortly after 5pm. Local Emergency Services, RCMP, and Paramedics were called to the scene on Winnipeg Ave where a vehicle had struck a pedestrian.

RCMP Sergeant Shelley Lepla said both the Emerson and Morris detachments were called out to investigate.

"What I can tell you is that the person driving the car was not intoxicated, however the pedestrian was intoxicated and did sustain some pretty bad injuries," explained Lepla.

Local Emergency Services were the first on scene with RCMP close behind. Paramedics did not arrive until after 6pm. The Pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Morris and due to his injuries was flown to Winnipeg by STARS.

"I was told earlier this morning that the injured pedestrian, around nineteen years old, is now in stable condition," said Lepla.

Currently the accident is under investigation, and no charges have been laid at this time.
