People in the Pembina Valley had a number of options when it came to celebrating Canada's 150th birthday Saturday.

"We do have a very large diverse cultural community and not everyone who lives here (in the Pembina Valley) is from Canada. I think it's really important that since we've all come together we should celebrate what Canada is and what it means to us," said Morden's summer program coordinator. "As this year is the 150th birthday we wanted to do some events that would include all of these groups coming together showing what Canada is now, and where we've came from."

The City of Morden added a few new events this year, including a downtown birthday party, which closed down the area from 8th street from Stephen Street to North Railway street.

The party included live music, cultural demonstrations, vendors, bingo, games and birthday cake. The afternoon kicked off with a picnic table set for 150 people. This was in addition the City's annual beach blast will be held at Colert Beach.

In Winkler the Bethel Heritage Park featured a children’s carnival and entertainment, birthday cake and supper with entertainment by The Pylons and fiddling champ Patti Kustorock.

Meanwhile, in Altona celebrations included baseball, food trucks, inflatables, chalk drawing contest, a kiddie carnival, free watermelon and rollkuchen.
