Fur pelts are the new currency at Stanley Park this weekend.

That's where the 21st Annual Pembina Valley Fur Council Rendezvous and Trade Fair will be hosted until Sunday evening.

Activities range from black powder shooting and tomahawk throwing to blacksmithing and skinning demonstrations, along with new events this year, like a fireworks display Saturday night.

While numbers for this years Rendezvous are about average, Organizer Dennis Rex explains that the suppers are what draw the biggest crowds, and gives people a chance to connect.

"[The biggest event] used to be the pork roast but now I think it might be the fish fry," he says. "Plus, we've got different vendors and artist coming every year to keep things fresh. I think people like to come, have a look and really get involved in all of the fun activities we have set up."

Rex notes that while Saturday is the big day for events, there will still be a lot of great things to come and check out for Sunday.

"We have a bit of a worship service from 10:00 AM until about noon. It's not necessarily a regular type worship service you might find in church but it still gets the message across. After lunch is the ladies frying pan throwing contest which is a riot!" chuckles Rex. "Some of those ladies I wouldn't want throwing a frying pan at me!"
