The preliminary report on damage to Pine Ridge Elementary School delivered some good news for the Garden Valley School Division.

On Wednesday, a fire broke out on the west wing portion of the roof while roofing work was in progress.

Superintendent Todd Monster says the preliminary information indicates that the fire was contained to the west wing, second-floor roof and no damage occurred to any of the structural roof components, or the mechanical and electrical systems. There was also very little water damage done to the interior.  "So overall there will be very little impact felt inside as far as our finishing work that has already started."

Monster says the project's contractor, W.B.S. Construction, will proceed with clean-up as soon as possible and will be working with the roofing company to get a new roof installed on the west wing of the building.

In the meantime, Monster says work will continue on the remainder of the school while that is being addressed.

Monster says W.B.S. feels confident and remains committed to a September opening for Pine Ridge. "For us, this is good news. We were concerned as to what the extent of the damage would be as well as what it would mean for our timeline. . . Knowing we can proceed for a September opening, that's really good news."
