It is believed that a space heater was the cause of an afternoon barn fire Friday near Plum Coulee.

Plum Coulee Fire Chief, Tony Fehr, confirmed Monday that some small pets did not survive the blaze.

He said it took about three hours to put out the fire even with help from members of the Winkler Fire Department who were called in to assist in the battle.

Fehr estimated the fire caused between $40,000 and $50,000 in damage.
