Residents of the City of Morden are feeling safe in the community they reside in. That according to the latest results of the Morden Police Board survey.

"Ultimately that is the goal of the Police Service," said Chair Rich Harries. "I'm very happy with the work that is being done by our Police Service."

Not only did this survey engage the community noted Harries, but it also provided an opportunity for the residents to outline which direction and issues the Police Service should focus their efforts on.

"We believe we are laying the foundation which will allow us to strengthen the services offered by the Morden Police Service to the citizens of Morden for the years to come," said Harries.

One of the questions had respondents outline their top five concerns and what they would like for Morden Police to focus on in the future.

Drugs, theft, break and enters, property damage and graffiti, assault/homicides, and sexual offenses were selected as the areas for concern by the residents.

Harries noted things like assaults/homicides, gang violence, and weapon offenses were also selected. He wanted to know if they were chosen because of their severity or if people feel they could increase in the future.

Residents were also concerned about distracted driving, having police more visible throughout the community. The top qualities residents value in officers were professionalism, being approachable, and trustworthiness.

Harries noted it's important to hear from residents to know their expectations of the Police Service.

"We as a Police Board are only five individuals and it's important for us to engage in the community to ensure that we understand what those needs, wants, and priorities are," said Harries.
