Winkler Fire Department responded to a call this afternoon to a hydro pole fire at North Railway.

Manitoba Hydro arrived on scene and began work to replace the pole and string the line. However, the grid first had to be de-energized, leaving 360 customers without power for approximately an hour.

Traffic lights on PTH 32 have also been affected. Residents are reminded to treat the intersection as a 4-way stop until power is restored.

While not common, Bruce Owen of MB Hydro explains moisture can sometimes breach equipment and cause a hydro pole to ignite.
