The Prairie Spirit School Division (PSSD) is grappling with its budget in the light of cuts from the Province.

Together with a two percent cap on the education levy the division is looking at a net loss of $380k compared to last year.

However, PSSD Chair Jan McIntyre says they continue to see the cost of educating children an investment, not simply an expense.

She notes the division has a long-term record of being financially conservative and sensitive to the effect of increases in education taxes on landowners.

"We're doing our best to limit the impact in the classroom but it's becoming more challenging as funding gets dropped."

McIntyre adds approximately 90 percent of the annual budget of $28.9 million is set aside for salaries and bus services.

Everyone is invited to the division's annual budget meeting Tuesday, February 26 at the division office in Swan Lake starting at 7:30 p.m.
