Work is being done on the Rempel drain in the RM of Montcalm.

This is good news for Montcalm Reeve Derek Sabourin, who said it seems like they've been talking about this project with the province for many years.

"They're supposed to do two miles of it this winter, the work's being done as we speak," said Sabourin.

He hopes the work will continue but said the province hasn't specified when that will happen.

"This is a project that's been ongoing talks between our municipality and Rhineland along with the province... eight plus years now. So finally we've seen some work get done."

Sabourin estimates the Rempel drain is 6 or 7 miles long while the St. Joseph drain, also awaiting work, is 3 miles.

"It's critical that this gets done in a timely fashion so we can tie in some of our municipal drains into it... to make sure that there's adequate drainage for the farmers in that area," he added.
