The Prairie Rose School Division is pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into improvements at a number of its schools.

In addition to roughly $650,000 the division is spending on its schools this year, the Public Schools Finance Board is also investing $1.8 - million renovations at Carman Collegiate, and another $1.2 - million into Miami School.

At Carman Collegiate, the roof is being replaced, and an envelope project is also happening to the front of the school, west of the front glass wall.  "The southern part of Carman Collegiate and the western wall will have a very different took when mid-October to mid-November comes around," said Superintendent Terry Osiowy.

A roof replacement and envelope building project is also occurring at Miami School.

"At Carman Elementary we're doing a divisional project," added Osiowy.  "We are consolidating the Administration Student Services area together with that building."

St. Pauls Collegiate at Eli is also seeing some work.  There, Osiowy said a major gym refresh and hallway painting project is underway.  "We have four buildings that will see major changes over the next six months, and they're all needed."

Osiowy said a number of years ago the board mandated to make investments that would actually make a big difference to its schools, rather than spreading funds around evenly in bits and pieces with not much getting done.  "We did that at Carman Collegiate last year where we redid lights and redid the interior of the gym.  And we're getting a lot of positive feedback from staff, students, and from parents because they can actually see something changing."
