R.M. of Morris councillors were in Rosenort this week for an annual public open house meeting.

Reeve Ralph Groening says the yearly session is intended to help maintain contact with residents and provide updates on Council's plans for the area. He adds two considerations were brought forward at the latest meeting.

The first had to do with storm sewers along the south dike. "We lowered that last year and so in order to improve proper drainage and in order to make that area more functional, usable and more attractive, we are proposing a one hundred thousand dollar cost to the community for the storm sewer project," explained Groening.

The second consideration involved the repaving of the bike path with a proposal to extend it under Highway 205 up to the obelisk.

Groening says both of these proposals will be further discussed among the local L.U.D. committee and Council-at-large, with decisions expected this spring.

Meantime, a recent meeting between council officials and representatives with Red River Valley School Division focused on building communication with local ratepayers. The discussion had to do with education taxes and their impact on residents.

"We met to start that communication and to offer the school board an opportunity to include an insert that we would put into our tax notices that would explain to our residents the cost impact to them and also provide contact information for people who they could discuss further, the issues they may have," explained Groening.

He adds the R.M. will be making similar offers to Border Land School Division and Prairie Rose School Division.

And finally, Groening says an Assistant Public Works Foreman has been hired for the municipality. He explains that Paul Robert will start his new role immediately, providing additional support to department staff.

"It's been a very busy winter and our Public Works staff and our Foreman worked very hard...but we thought (another position would) provide some support and also holiday relief."
