As the summer rolls on, so does the rate of crime in the area. RCMP are reminding the public to take the proper steps toward preventing crime from happening.

RCMP Corporal Darcy Thiessen said in many instances people do not lock their door and they leave the keys in the vehicle - a result of believing nothing will happen to them. However, he said, it is better safe than sorry.

"We'd like to see people secure their vehicles ... taking the extra step to securing your vehicle will save you in the long run," said Cpl. Thiessen.

He said the best place to have valuables is on your person so you know where they are at all times. If they must stay in the car, it is best to hide them and secure the vehicle.

If you see any suspicious activity, Cpl. Thiessen said calling the police is the best way to prevent crime from occuring.
