Winter can put a damper on plans and make people feel like they must remain indoors.

To keep people active over the winter months, Morden has dozens of sports, activities, and events, to enhance the lives of its residents.

"When you're active everything gets better," says Morden Recreation Programmer Stephanie Dueck, noting that this includes a person's mood, connection to their community, and improve someone's sleep schedule.

There are many different kinds of activities that could pique people's interest, Dueck says, naming skating, skiing, curling, snowshoeing, weekly sports and fitness classes, numerous events, concerts, plays and fundraiser meals.

Once again residents of Morden can head outdoors and enjoy skating around a trail on Lake Minnewasta.

Last year Morden resident Dave Penner, who is also part of the Morden Fire Department, used his truck and plow to clear the snow off of the lake to form a roughly 3.5-kilometre trail for everyone to skate on.

Dueck says she is excited to see residents have this opportunity again.

"It's great to see people being active and enjoying the outdoors, that is just wonderful, and the response was amazing."

Dueck says the city is very grateful to Cole Hildebrand, Capital Landscaping, and the Morden Fire Department, and they have said they will maintain the trail this winter.

One event Dueck thinks most people will be excited for is Morden's Multicultural Winterfest. "I think Winterfest is an event that has grown and continues to get out a good crowd, and that's part of our winter experience here in Morden."

A list of all the events can be found on the city of Morden's website.
