The latest spring flood outlook released Thursday by the U-S National Weather Service indicates the threat for significant spring flooding this year on the Red River has increased since late February.

The latest report shows above normal snowfall has fallen in the basin this winter and substantial snowfall is expected over the next two weeks, resulting in a widespread, above-normal runoff on the U-S side.

The frost is deep this year and will limit the amount of water soaking into the soil.

There is a 50 percent chance the Red will hit 35 feet at Fargo, North Dakota, which is well below the city's 2009 level flood protection of 44 feet.
