Work continues in 2017 on the Reinland Drain in the R.M of Stanley.

The project has been on the books for nearly a decade, and has become "a huge thorn in our side," Reeve Morris Olafson says.

Planning was thought to be completed last year until heavy rainfall this summer caused the R.M to revisit the entire design.

"It might change from a quarter million dollar project to a million dollar project, we don't know," he says. "We're just scared of it. And we hate to spend money doing a band-aid fix when we should do it right the first time around."

The drain was built on shifting sandy soil, one mile south of Blumenfeld. The accelerated erosion and moving dirt causes issues with culverts and bridges down stream.

"In hindsight maybe it should've never been built," Olafson says.

He notes they are waiting to hear if the project has qualified for federal disaster funding.
