Not only will you want to hang onto your hats tomorrow, you'll also want to hang onto your recyclables, or at least take extra measures to secure what you put out to the curb.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for much of Southern Manitoba, with gusts up to 90 km/h expected Wednesday.

For those with recycling day tomorrow, Ron Gerbrandt, director of operations at Gateway Resources in Winkler says with a wind of that speed, if you can, it may be best to keep your recyclables inside until just before their trucks come. He said if you do need to keep it outside, the best thing would be to cover it with something heavy.

Gerbrandt said residents also have the option to drop off their recyclables at the depot at Gateway or hang onto it until next week's pick-up.

Meanwhile, Gerbrandt said it doesn't happen often that recycling is called off due to weather. He said in the winter, in the midst of very inclement weather, they will sometimes not drive. He notes the decision not do so is only made in consultation with the City of Winkler.

Referring to a case like Wednesday's forecasted wind he said, "So we would send our vehicles out, but we won't be able to chase it down if it blows around your street or into your backyard, so it's kind of at the homeowners discretion."

Meantime, residents in communities like Morden and Altona won't have to worry as much, as large bins with lids are used for recycling.
