A ridesharing company is setting up shop in the Pembina Valley.

ReRyde is coming to Morden, Winkler and the RM of Stanley in the coming weeks with the hopes of adding another transportation option for local residents.

Director of Operations Jamil Chaundhry explains the ride-sharing app has been well received in Winnipeg and notes they saw the population of 50,000 represented in the Pembina Valley region has an expansion possibility.

"People commuting between these cities and small towns, I think we can bridge that gap... connecting the Pembina Valley," he says.

The company was founded in 2018; users download the app and book a trip with the nearest local ReRyde-approved driver. Payment is processed through the app as well.

Chaundry says becoming a ReRyde driver is also a great opportunity to make extra money on their own schedule. Drivers are accepted after a criminal background check, vehicle safety inspection. After being approved, drivers simply sign into the app and indicate they are available to start picking up passengers.

"If you have a couple hours, turn your app on and be on the road and help our ReRyde community," Chaundry says.

He notes they're hoping to add a few more drivers into their fleet before launching in the coming weeks.
