The RM of Montcalm will allow cannabis to be sold from retail locations in their jurisdiction.

However, Reeve Derek Sabourin said council is still waiting to hear more on the issue.

"The feds announced it's going to be legal and now they're kind of second guessing when that'll be. The province determines who will have a retail licence, so that's out of our hands," said Sabourin.

Ultimately, Sabourin explained, if someone in the RM was granted a retail license, council will not stand in their way to sell the product.

"If it's legal, people should not be told they can't sell it, so that's kind of our take on that."

For now, the RM is planning to sit tight and wait for more information from the government, such as timelines and retail guidelines.

"There's still a lot of questions about the speed in which this will go," he said. "The province asked us to pass saying we did support it, but that doesn't tie our hands, you know, going forward. We'll deal with it as it comes."
