After 20 years, the Roseau River Canoe Derby was revived and proved to be a big success.

Wayne Arseny is the Tourism Coordinator for the Emerson-Franklin Municipality. He said the weather and water levels were just right, the water temperature was good for such a hot day, and many people jumped in the river for a swim.

"Over the last year we've mapped and signed the river so it was a different experience for people to see the river with all the efforts we've done," said Arseny.

Canoes, kayaks, and tubes started out from Stuartburn in the morning, travelling a distance of 11km to Roseau River Park.

The event attracted around 500 visitors, including people from Lac du Bonnet, La Broquerie, Richer, Winkler, and Île Des Chênes.

"People came from quite a distance," said Arseny.

The event was free, and people had the option of participating in the poker derby.

Arseny has hopes to bring the event back next year.
