The Swinging bridge used recreationally by area residents and tourists to cross the Roseau River has been damaged due to high water.

The bridge was originally built in 1946 as a crossing for children attending School at Senkiw, which is about 30 kms northeast of Dominion City. The structure was restored in 2004 by the local Emerson-Franklin Tourism Committee of volunteers, who sold wooden planks to raise the funds. The swinging bridge is located a few miles west of PR 218, which runs off PTH 201 about 17 km East of Dominion City.

Wayne Arseny President of the Emerson-Franklin tourism committee says the damage is unfortunate, but fixable.

"Over the period of the last two weeks, it seems a tree that was frozen in the ice hooked the bridge creating a ice jam and took out about eighteen to twenty boards that will have to be replaced in the next day or two."

The bridge should be up in running in a couple of days, according to Arseny, noting the difficult part will be hauling the tools and lumber up to the bridge which is about 1/4 of a mile from the nearest parking location.
