You don't have to travel far in order to find heroes who have given their lives in service of their country; many men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice have called Morden home.

That according to Morden Mayor Ken Wiebe, who says we should always remember history and its impact, if we don't we're doomed to repeat the past.

"I think that for the folks that sacrificed their lives and time from this community, I think that should be remembered. This is one way we can do that, to keep people mindful of the fact that Morden has its place in the history of Canada."

Murals have been erected in Morden's Confederation Park to commemorate the Centennial of the first World War. The murals were designed from war-time photos provided by the Morden Legion.

A committee representing Morden Collegiate, the Morden Legion, and the City have been working on a number of projects in the park to improve the historical content.

Events have included adding additional names to the Cenotaph, the installation of a chronological series of WWI memorial plaques along the walkway and additional memorial benches. WWII memorial plaques were also installed, along with murals displaying local images of war time.

"The City has done a great job adding mementos for the different world wars," says Bob Frost from the Morden Legion. "When people walk through Confederation Park, they'll see a tribute to our veterans. It helps the younger generation learn more about what veterans have done. They have added even more history to that whole park."
