Motorists should be aware that school speed zones come into effect on Saturday of September long weekend.

Every year, school speed zones come into effect from the start of September to end of June.

Bachelor reminds residents about the price of speeding tickets.

"It starts on the first of September, so speed zones are reduced in front of all of our schools to 30km/hour starting at 8 in the morning and goes until 8 in the evening," said Altona Police Chief Perry Batchelor.

Batchelor wants to make people aware that the ready busy streets will become even busier when school gets started. With children getting on buses, walking home, and perhaps not obeying all the rules of the road themselves, he asks drivers to be extremely cautious.

Altona Police will also be partnering with MPI again this fall for the Back To School Campaign, and an increased amount of police officers will be out enforcing traffic laws.

In Carman, the local speed zone for schools is 30 km/h all year long, during all hours of the day. In Winker and Morden, school zones are set at 30 km/h Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm. In the Town of Morris, the school zone limit is also 30 km/h, and is in effect Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5pm.
