There is snow in the forecast for this week and that usually gets most snowmobilers excited.

Environment Canada is calling for periods of snow Wednesday and Thursday.

Vern Wieler, president of the Border Valley Sno-Goers explains how much snow they will need before they start using a groomer.

"If we would get six to ten inches of snow we could probably get a relatively decent start in some of the areas, depending of course on whether we get a lot of wind. That can dictate things as well."

Some significant snowfall now would help get the season off to a positive start, but Wieler admitted there's still some time for that to happen.

"In a normal winter, we generally start in between Christmas and New Year's and sometimes in a later year we'll start after New Year's."

Wieler said a good snow year would help boost the snowmobile economy in the area after having endured a couple of rather dry winters.

Meanwhile, the Border Valley Sno-Goers will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, December 4 in the top floor of the Plum Coulee Arena.
