The Snoflies Snowmobile Club based out of Carman held its annual Poker Derby last weekend. It's one of the few chances for riders who don't have a snowpass to hit their trails.

Club President, Matt Lemky says, "we had nice weather, lots of snow. We had about 115 riders out and they did a loop around to Elm Creek, St. Claude, Roseisle, our warm-up shelter south of Graysville, and then back to Carman just trying to get the highest score and win the money."

He says this year was one of the biggest ever and credits the enjoyable weather with bringing out so many participants.

The numbers are still being calculated, but Lemky believes the total is around the $4,000 mark.

"A portion of it will get donated to STARS, which was kind of our fundraiser for the year, and then the other portion will be for regular trail maintenance, and groomer maintenance, and just upkeep of the trail system," he says.

Although they haven't experienced any accidents on their trails that would require STARS, rider safety is something they care strongly about.

"We know that if there ever was something, that a lot of our areas are remote and they're about the only ones that would actually be able to get there," adds Lemky.
