Residents in the Town of Carman and R.M. of Dufferin may be noticing their water is discoloured.

The Pembina Valley Water Co-op (PVWC) has reported that it's experiencing some discoloured water throughout its Stephenfield Regional Distribution System, which also includes customers in the R.M. of Grey, the community of Sperling within the R.M. of Morris, and the R.M. of Thompson.

With the recent upgrades to the Stephenfield Water Treatment plant to improve water quality, the Co-op says it's expected to have occasional coloured water. Discoloured water can result from routine operations or activities such as water main breaks and repairs or flow reversals.

PVWC recommends that the discoloured water should not be used for any purposes that require clean water, such as drinking, preparing food, infant formula, or doing laundry. However, it says drinking small amounts of discoloured water should not pose a health threat if accidentally consumed.

The Co-op continues to work on finding a solution to the issue and invites customers with questions or concerns to call their office.

Meanwhile, in a notice to customers online, the Town of Carman has said it will be decreasing use of water from the P.V.W.C. until the situation is resolved.
