The Red River Valley may look a little white later today.

A weather warning is in effect as a strong Alberta clipper tracks its way over southern Manitoba and into Minnesota.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Robyn Dyck says we can expect about 5-10 centimetres of snow once the temperature drops.  "So that rain will change to snow," said Dyck.

Dyck says there is also a cold northerly wind expected to bring speeds of 60 gusting to 80 and the temperature will drop during the day.

"Along with that we could have some blowing snow in open areas, so that could be reducing visibilities on roads impacting travel.  We are also hovering around the zero degree mark, so with that, you could have some rain falling freezing on contact, and making some slushy conditions," said Dyck.

Dyck adds the system will clear out this evening.

With the weather likely to affect road conditions over the next day or two, Manitoba Public Insurance is reminding motorists to slow down and drive to the conditions.
