The Winkler Harvest Festival wrapped up Sunday, and was said by many to be another success. Entertainment for people of all ages and interests was available all weekend, along with pancake breakfast, parade, Wonder Shows midway and much more.

The success of the festival was thanks to the support from the community says Harvest Festival Director Deb Penner, who has been working with the festival for 11 years.

"It was just a very successful weekend," explains Penner. "I appreciate all the volunteers, all the sponsors. This is the first year we had the new stage, provided and built by Triple E. It was so impressive for the local and other performers we had here. We're just really blessed to have great support all around from the community."

The main stage was broken in by many amazing local artists Friday, Jayme Giesbrecht, Steve Dueck, Bill Dowling, Frank McLean among others.

Over the entire weekend, people could listen to free music from The Hunter Brothers, Ed Wayne and the North Border Band, Gord Bamford with The Boy and the Sea, Flood The Stone and Hawk Nelson closing up the weekend.

Gord Bamford, CMA and Juno award winning country performer, was met with resounding excitement, and shared why he enjoys performing in smaller cities like Winkler.

"Winkler's like the community I grew up in, and still live in now. Moved back from Nashville, and have our children grow up in smaller towns. I think it's a big part of who I am, coming from a smaller community."

The Winkler Harvest Festival has grown and changed over the years, but continue to have fantastic vendors, showcases from Agricultural Societies, and 4-H at the arena, sporting and fitness events, horse shows, and of course, the midway.

Wonder Shows has been a big member of the Harvest Festival for many years. Owners Ken and Anita Kiernicki were impressed by local Harvest Festival super fan 12-year-old Aiden Friesen. Aiden made a video of Wonder Shows setting up. The video was watched over 1,600 times on social media. The Kiernicki's were so impressed, Aiden was given a free pass to the rides all weekend.

The weekend ended with a bang with fireworks, symbol of the bright future of the Harvest Festival.
