Officials are keeping an eye on a small, suspicious-looking hole that has appeared on a street in Altona. Members of the town public works, public utilities and police departments responded to the report on 7th Ave N.E. Friday around 9:30 PM.
Clint Derksen, Public Works Manager, says they barricaded the area and monitored it throughout the weekend.
The hole measured about 9 inches on the surface, however it expanded to nearly 3 feet by 3 feet beneath the asphalt.
Investigation on Monday determined the hole was not created by a sewer main break and crews are still trying to find the cause.
Derksen added the plan is to fill the hole with A-base gravel and crews will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days. He noted excavation of the site will be needed if the hole continues to grow.
