The Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS) held its 10th annual steak dinner this weekend. This is the first fundraiser for PVHS to hit the decade milestone.

Public Relations Chair for the humane society, Megan Rodgers, said the milestone shows people appreciate what they are doing, and it demonstrates their love of animals.  "The fact the community has stood behind us for a decade, means the world to us."

This year's steak dinner was sold out. In the past a sold out steak dinner has brought in around $3,500 for PVHS, and Rodgers expects at least that again this year.

Rodgers explained all money brought in through their fundraisers goes toward medical expenses for the animals.

Assistant shelter manager, Dave Bone, added $3,500 will provide a lot of food and shelter for quite a few animals for a long time.  "It's hard to break down the exact number cost per animal, but it's definitely going to go a long way in helping the critters we have...and also find the right home for each and every one of them."

Meanwhile, Fundraising Chair Kirby Stadey says at this time, they could also use support in another way.  She noted they are still in need of foster homes for their kennel repair project, especially for animals that can't be in a home with other animals. "So if anyone is looking to take care of an animal for a month or two, they should visit www.pvhsociety.ca for more information."

Stadey also mentioned the shelter is having a sale on cats for the entire month of April.  "Every cat is 50% off.  We have five cats that have been there (the shelter) for over a year, and we would really like to see them find their forever homes."
