Carman was home to another successful Curl 4 Cancer bonspiel and banquet Saturday, despite the inclement weather.

And while the final tally isn't in yet, organizer Sandra Goff expects the total to hit about $70,000.

"We are fortunate to live in a very support community," she said.

Goff explained 18 out of a maximum 20 teams curled in the bonspiel during the day and about 180 people attended the evening banquet that featured a guest speaker, silent auction and a live auction.

Money raised at Curl 4 Cancer will once again be split between South Central Cancer Resource, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society and Carman Palliative Care.

"We try to have an even distribution of supporting research and supporting patient care," added Goff.

Meantime, Goff said volunteer support for the annual event, which marked its 24th year this year, has been excellent despite the organizer role changing hands a few times over the years.

She also thanks all of the local sponsors that support the fund raiser year-after-year.

"I really appreciate how easy it is to approach the businesses in the area."
