Walter Giesbrecht, the teacher who filmed students from Garden Valley Collegiate (GVC) meeting Prince Harry, Prince William, and Justin Trudeau, said the trip the students took was a whirlwind.

"It was nine days of seeing new thing after new thing after new thing," Giesbrecht said, who was one of the chaperone's on the trip. It wasn't just for fun however, visiting Vimy ridge was a somber experience according to Giesbrecht, for himself and the students.

"They were quite reflective at times as well just at how amazing it is that so many Canadians gave their lives to help us live in the situation we do now."

When Giesbrecht and the students arrived at Vimy Ridge for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, they didn't have good seats among the 25,000 or so other Canadians attending the ceremony. When it was over, and the various dignitaries were leaving, the two British princes and Trudeau walked right by the group from GVC. Giesbrecht captured them shaking hands and chatting with the students, which he said was "really special".

"It was an amazing situation," Giesbrecht said.

"It was one of those things [where you're] in the right place at the right time."
