Capturing the moments when a couple invites the newest member of their family was the goal of a group of eight photographers.

Embracing community over competition, the group of photographers has created ‘Born’. The exhibit of 47 pieces showcases the journey from labour to birth.

Holly Klassen of Holly Michelle Photography is a local photographer who has seven pieces in the ‘Born’ exhibit. Klassen shares freezing the moments during labour in photo form
creates an everlasting moment.

"Just being there as a fly on the wall or a doula support, you can capture those moments that are so quickly gone."

During labour or delivery you can often forget some details during the chaos, says Klassen. A photograph holds that moment that can be cherished forever.

The birthing process is a spiritual experience and being a part of it is an honour, says Klassen. Each of her seven pieces shares a different story and experience from the family involved.

"I've chosen my pieces to try and capture a wide array of birth spaces. In my pieces you'll notice hospitals, doctor birth, home birth, water birth, centre birth. Each of them is special to me too, you grow pretty attached when you share that experience with someone."

‘Born' is being showcased at the Pembina Hills Art Council till March 31, with an opening reception to speak to the artists at 7:30 p.m. today.

Klassen encourages everyone to visit the exhibit to view the many moments during birth, labour, loving touches and the first feeding.
