The Boyne River flood situation is starting to turn a corner.

R.M. of Dufferin Reeve George Gray says things are looking positive with the water level dropping at least a foot over night. An ice jam on the river east of Carman came loose late Monday, allowing backed up water to begin flowing more freely.

Crews have begun to rebuild some washed out roads and classes resumed today at Carman Elementary and Carman Collegiate after two days of cancellations.

Gray cautions however, the situation could quickly change should imminent weather hit accompanied by heavy precipitation. He urges residents to keep sand bags and other water barriers in place until further notice.

Meantime, river levels also decreased in the Town of Carman overnight, about two or three inches. Mayor Bob Mitchell says the water is flowing quickly and moving out of town. He feels that a second surge of the river is occuring, but that water is being absorbed.Officials are working to get the water treatment plant up and running. Mitchell adds next, they'll have to examine the damage sustained to the 1st Street bridge and the Carman Diversion over the past week.
