1920s flappers, the hippie era, and the disco era.  Those were a few of the genres showcased during the Winkler Skating Club's annual carnival on the weekend.

Around 60 kids took to the ice Saturday evening to showcase their skills.  The event featured a range of levels, from first year skaters to skaters involved in the competitive program.

Carnival Chair Tanya Giesbrecht says the event is an ideal way to cap off the season for all the skaters.  "It's a great celebration of what they've all accomplished throughout the year, and a chance to show the community our club, and our sport."

Giesbrecht said it's such a thrill to see the little kids who went from falling a lot at the beginning of the year to now being able to glide across the ice.

Giesbrecht said she would definitely encourage more people to lace up and try skating. "It's such a great program, and where we live skating is such a social thing...hockey is such a great sport in this community, and our skating club is so fantastic.  It's just a nice thing to know how to do and have fun with."
