The Winkler and Morden Tim Hortons locations raised over $11,000 during Camp Day August 5.

Co-owner Jeff Derksen explains they donated 100 percent of coffee and ice-coffee to send local youth to camp. He notes because of the current health situation, youth will attend virtual camps.

Last year the two locations raised just over $9,600.

Co-owner Lynda Derksen is one of the owners who has also been in the business for 15 years says that camp is an important experience where kids can learn what they're capable of and expand their limits.

Along with camps in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, the newest Tim Hortons camp opened in 2015 at the Whiteshell Provincial Park on Sylvia Lake. This is currently their only camp in Manitoba.

Winkler and Morden Tim Hortons General Manager Sarah Friesen says Camp Day is always a lot of fun for staff as well. She notes she's made friendships at camp that have lasted over two decades.

"It's very important for a kid to experience camp, especially for those who aren't able to. I think every kid deserves to experience camp at some point in their life."
